Wexford Recreation
Athletics: Golf and Tennis
The 18-hole private golf course, designed by Willard Byrd, is the annual qualifying site for the PGA Tour’s Heritage Classic, which is held later at Sea Pines. On average, fewer than 50 rounds are played per day, and a Head Pro with three assistant Pros are available for service. Members and children under 21 play for free, but watch out for the 72 sand traps—Wexford is not only a private course, but a creative one.
Six clay Har-Tru courts, two of them lighted, possess views of the harbour and/or golf course. A Head Pro and assistant Pro are on site to help to-be players, offering group or private lessons.
Boating
Wexford’s 24-hour tide-free lock system provides access to Broad Creek any time it is needed. The unique system offers almost 4 miles of concrete partition and keeps the 37.5 acre harbour at least 8 feet deep at all times—about 100 million gallons of water—to ensure security of the enclosed boats. Each boat may be up to 70 feet long with up to 19-foot beams, and one of the 140 lots, if available, may be acquired at the marina. A full-time staff works round the clock to ensure entry or exit from the lock system takes no more than ten minutes.
